Oil Commissions as a Festive gift

Personal art commissions make the most fantastic gifts – something unique and lasting that genuinely makes a statement about both parties.

As we prepare for the festive season, I'm busy trying to capture all the wonderful shades of autumn, coupled with the gentler softer light as the shadows lengthen before we head into winter. The dry heat of the long summer is gone and subtle, natural colours are everywhere, desperate to make a final show before vanishing under snow and ice. The fine art of colour mixing in oils really gets pushed to the limit as a myriad of browns, ochres, yellows and reds dominate my landscapes. Nature is determined to show off the ready harvests in one final, dramatic splurge of colour and texture.

I'm also getting ready to enter one of my busiest periods of the year – Christmas. Apart from the inner warmth and cosy glow that radiates from the festivities, I really enjoy getting back into the studio, iTunes blasting, to concentrate on the personal commissions that flow into my inbox, ready for unwrapping on the big day.

A commission is something that lasts beyond a lifetime. They have their own life and purpose, long after they leave my studio for their intended space. It could be they are intended to evoke memories, stretch the imagination, light a personal flame or simply leave a stamp in time that something mattered – and nothing does that better than oil on canvas – ask any museum!

A commission gives you the chance to make a statement, leave something for the future whilst enjoying a unique representation of your ideas and of course, make the most wonderful lasting gifts that genuinely express “something”.

Nothing else comes close to expressing that something matters, personally to you or the intended recipient than the texture, colour and form of a personal painting, individual to you, your taste, your vision.

Feel free to contact me with your ideas – now's the time – oil takes time to dry on canvas and I'lll walk you through the process of transforming your idea into something that will outlast us all.
